BROWARD CHILDREN’S CENTER (bcc)

For the ninth year in a row, Ava Claus & Friends is excited to once again be partnering with Broward Children’s Center, (BCC), a non-profit organization that specializes in helping medically fragile infants, children and young adults. Over 40% of the children who live at BCC were born as typical children.  Due to unfortunate accidents and in some cases, due to abuse, they now have severe cognitive and medical impairments that require 24 - hour care. 

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected us all in so many ways this year and especially the children at Broward Children’s Center. Because they are so medically fragile, they have been isolated from the outside world since March. Most of these kids have not seen their parents or families in 10 months and some even longer.  We know this holiday season is going to be especially difficult and ask you to remember all the organizations that have been severely impacted by the pandemic. Ava Claus and Friends would previously host monthly programs for the children at BCC throughout the year.  Our inability to interact with the children on a personal level has been troubling, but it has also strengthened our resolve to make this holiday season more special than years past.  

Ava formed a Kids’ Committee where she serves as President. Ava Claus and Friends, (as Ava has named her Committee), visit BCC monthly and have developed friendships with the children and staff.  They volunteer their time to play with the kids, attend special events and spearhead fundraisers with the children, who are in a lot of ways just like them.  The Kids’ Committee votes and decides where the money they raise will go to help their friends.  Last year, they raised over $5,000 which went towards renovating the lobby of the center, providing respite care for families and buying communication devices.  Ava has made it her mission to help these children and BCC.
